Thymallus arcticus
While the aforementioned Thymallus arcticus, or Arctic Grayling, clearlybears no resemblance to a salmon whatsoever, these scrappy little guys are actually members of the salmon, or Salmonidae family.

Where the Thunder Lizards Roamed
It is a land frozen in time, an ancient place, shrouded in both mystery and legend.
The people of Great Bear Lake - the Sahtu Dene, have lived here since the beginning of time as we would perhaps understand it, and through the generations have handed down stories of Na acho - the gigantic mammals and birds that once roamed the earth.
I've done my fair share of fishing over the past 50 years. Some might even say more than my fair share. Travelling in search of fish has taken me to some of the most "exotic" places throughout North America and beyond, but none perhaps more "exotic" than Great Bear Lake.
So what and where is Great Bear Lake or Sahtu?
You are going to see some very big Lake Trout from Great Bear Lake in the image gallery that follows - special fish - remarkable fish.
These fish, which ranged in size from 20 to 66.5 pounds, were caught throughout the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
