German rod specialist Sportex has revealed plans to launch a new 'unbreakable' rod onto the European spinning market. The Carat Z is made by combining carbon and a new material zylon and has proved to be virtually unbreakable during testing.
Now the company plans to make the Carat Z the focus of its European sales campaign - and is expecting a flood of demand. Zylon has outstanding tensile strength while carbon is particularly strong when flexed. Used together in the Carat Z, they create a rod which is extremely fast and powerful yet remarkably slim and light. Says the company’s Jan Willenbruch: "The Carat Z can be bent further than usual carbon rods without breaking because of zylon. Yet these new rods are prefectly light and show a fast action, unlike rods with glass composites which tend to be heavy and wobbly."
The Carat Z is the latest major advancement from Sportex, a company that has been at the forefront of rod development for six decades.
"Sportex can call upon sixty years of experience in material technology," adds Jan Willenbruch. "Our innovations include our legendary fibre glass rods and the first carbon fibre rods. Today we are probably the only rod manufacturer in the world working with these plus kevlar fibres, boron fibres and now zylon. Every one of these materials is designed to give fishermen a clear technical advantage."
After testing the Carat Z almost to destruction, Sportex is now ready to release its virtually unbreakable rod onto the European market.
"We have been working on the Carat Z and the zylon fibre for over two years, including developing several prototypes," adds Jan Willenbruch. "Now we’re ready. This series will be the main focus of our European sales campaign."
The Carat Z series offers a compact number of high end spinning rods from 2.1m to 3.3m in different weight classes.
